Also me: And ANOTHER way that Dave could come back in season 3...
Nobody asked but here’s the ideas I’ve had so far
1. Old Dave Who Never Loved Klaus And Also Didn’t Die Because Timeline Fuckery. I think we’re all expecting this one based on Klaus from the Comics apparently meeting his wife in a nursing home
2. Dave Who Never Loved Klaus Because Timeline Fuckery But Still Died And Gets Conjured By Klaus
3. Klaus is sad because Ben and Dave so he turns to drugs and overdosed and God gives him the sadistic choice to either talk to Dave Who Loved Klaus or Umbrella Ben, and either Klaus chooses Dave, or Klaus chooses Ben but god gives him the opposite of what he chose to fuck with him. And Dave hugs and kisses Klaus and wipes away his tears and we all rejoice.
4. Vietnam Flashback With New Footage This Time. Maybe an entire episode’s worth

The gang all have to go to Vietnam in February 1969 for Some Reason, and while they’re there Klaus makes a quick detour to try to convince Dave not to go to hill 689 on Feb 21 while carefully avoiding his other self. This could be a way of having a Vietnam flashback without it really being a flashback. We’d get to see Dave Who Loves Klaus and see what he’s like and how they interact but there’d be like a plot reason for it to happen.
6. The commission resurects Dave and recruits him to work for them (this isn’t my idea, I’ve seen it floating around). I don’t know if this would work, like I don’t know what the commission’s motivation would be, but the Vietnam war is significant to them somehow (the handler had a grenade form the vietnam war in The Day That Wasn’t), and we also know that Dave was shot in the back so he probably wasn’t shot by enemy fire, which is suspicious... also this would give Dave a storyline outside of Klaus, which would be interesting to see. Although reuniting with Klaus would still be his primary motivation.
7. Stable Time Loop Despite Timeline Fuckery. Dave met Klaus in 1963 and also met and fell in love with Klaus in 1968. Klaus conjures his ghost boyfriend who helps him on missions and Klaus’s powers are useful. Maybe Klaus also conjures their other Sky Soldier buddies and gets to have a ghost army
8. Dave Never Died Because Timeline Fuckery and he settled down with some other man and they adopted a baby in 1989 and Surprise it’s alternate timeline Klaus, because Reginald never adopted him in this timeline. This gives a flavour of Dave and Klaus will always love each other in every timeline, even if it’s not always romantically, because they are soulmates (they did this in The X Files and it was a lovely idea there too. In the season 4 episode The Field Where I Died, Mulder and Scully discover that they’ve been reincarnated over and over and their souls have always found each other, sometimes as husband and wife, sometimes as siblings, sometimes as parent and child. They’ve loved each other over and over for years in different ways.)
Oh and I can’t believe I forgot this one!
9. If Vanya can bring Harlan to life why not Dave? They borrow a briefcase from Herb and make a quick trip to Vietnam February 21 1969 to bring Dave back to life and bring him back to 2019.
10. Hallucination. We already saw Klaus hallucinate Dave at the rave in The Day That Was. OR maybe he takes a halucinogen. OR, I haven’t read Hotel Oblivion but I think I read somewhere that it makes people face their past or something? OR maybe he just starts hallucinating Dave as like a coping mechanism after everything he’s been through. I could see the writers doing something like this because without Ben Klaus needs someone to bounce off of. Cause like as a character he’s very closed off, so the audience kinda needs him to talk to someone in order to know what’s going on in his head. I think this would be really interesting because it wouldn’t really be Dave, it would be Klaus. I can imagine him putting all his best qualities into this Dave hallucination because he doesn’t think he himself has these positive qualities, so in that way this “Dave” could act as Klaus’ moral compasses in a way that Cody said the real Dave wouldn’t.
11. The Hargreeves travel back in time to the late 60s (or maybe even early 70s?) to fix the timeline because that’s where it diverged (I guess? Why not? Maybe teenage Harlan did some stuff idk maybe Reginald got up to some shit who knows?) and that’s where Klaus runs into Cody!Dave who went AWOL and maybe became an anti war activist or maybe just went AWOL idk idk...
12. The Hargreeves travel back to 1989 to fix the timeline and we get 40-something businessman Dave who either went AWOL or just survived the war and bonus points if they’re in Germany (Dave’s there to shmoose some German business clients) and Klaus is fluent in German and Dave speaks a bit but not enough to flirt effectively and it’s adorable.
13. Alright I’m reluctant to add this one because I really don’t want it but for posterity’s sake in case it happens I want to be able to point here and say I called it. They go to 1989 and because Dave is a gay man in the 80s, he has AIDS and Klaus has to watch him die all over again. Anyways. No thanks. Do Not Want. Next!
14. No Dave and no Cody. Ugh, this one’s worse. Could they really leave us hanging like that after the story they did in season 2 though? For completeness I feel like I gotta mention it. Maybe Klaus will find out he lived a full life and died an old man or something but we won’t actually see or meet him. Or maybe he’ll find out Dave died younger than that but he won’t conjure him because he knows it wouldn’t be his Dave.
15. Dave but no Cody. Dave died much younger and Klaus conjures him and he’s played by Calem MacDonald again.

18. Old Dave but he’s a homeless addict with PTSD because the US government got their soldiers hooked on all the drugs and then abandoned them
19. Inspired by an ask I got, Dave survived but instead of (or perhaps even as well as) becoming an anti war activist he becomes a gay rights activist

Some mysterious person keeps rescuing Klaus and it turns out it’s Dave and maybe he can’t tell Klaus it’s him because he’s working for the commission and he’s not supposed to mess with the timeline but he does it anyway because he’s in love

23. An evil rogue division of the Commission wants to stop the Umbrellas from righting the timeline so they recruit Dave and tell him that Klaus only knew all that stuff about him because he saw it on the infinite switchboard and that he and his family are conn artists who keeps changing the timeline for their own selfish reasons and they have to be stopped
24. Lila killed Dave and so his ghost sticks with her and that’s why he’s not erased by the timeline changes and can reunite with Klaus. Thanks @one-warm-line
25. One of the Sparrows ends up with a briefcase in this timeline and accidentally ends up being sent to the Vietnam war where they meet and befriend Dave. He dies but the Sparrow brings him back Vanya style and he has powers like Harlan
26. Klaus makes a deal with the devil (maybe the real devil like a counterpart to the girl on the bike, or maybe it is the girl on the bike, or maybe just someone he shouldn’t be making deals with) to bring back Dave but obviously there’s some kind of catch or genie logic at play and things go bad
27. WandaVision AU. We’re only 3 episodes in so I have no idea what’s actually going on with WandaVision, but Klaus is in some kind of warped reality where Dave is alive and his husband in some happy 1960s sitcom but everything is just Not Quite Right
28. Lila has a plan but she needs to recruit someone to help her who isn’t loyal to the Commission or the Hargreeves. She sneaks into the infinite swichboard and... what’s this? An anomaly! David Katz... a soldier who was supposed to die on February 21st 1969 but didn’t for some reason. Well, a soldier could have all sorts of useful skills. Worth a try!
Alright I’m just gonna reblog this to make an addendum to point no 1 because it’s creating some confusion. I have no clue where I got this whole Klaus met his wife from Vietnam in a nursing home in the comics idea from. I’m sure I read it somewhere but I have no idea where. I’ve since read the comics and there is zero mention of any wife. Just wanted to clear that up because people are asking. I guess I’m not the only one who got the comics for Christmas!
29. No Cody and only mentions of Dave from Klaus until the very last scene of the last episode when everything in the season has been wrapped up and resolved and then BAM, Commission Dave arrives on their doorstep. And then we find out that Cody has been promoted to series regular for season 4.
This list is gonna potentially get spoilers from here on because we’re starting to get leaks and I’m a complete slut for spoilers (or potentially already has if you count Christopher the Cube as a spoiler) so uh, let the reader beware I guess...

Dave goes back to Klaus’ cult, maybe to get answers, and something interesting happens with that? He becomes an ‘initiate’ to the cult?
31. Christopher the Cube or one of the other Sparrows (doesn’t one of them have dream like powers or something?) conjures up a fantasy for each of the Umbrellas to distract them from doing whatever plot stuff they’re about to do, and of course for Klaus the fantasy is Dave being alive
32. Dave leaves the marines before he dies and decides to become a big brother or mentor or whatever they’re called for a troubled youth and he gets paired up with Harlan. And then when Harlan grows up and gets involved with the Commission and a time travel (I’m assuming that could happen)of course he tells his bestest buddy Dave and gets him a job there too!
33. Not my idea, Saccha from the Elliott’s House discord server came up with this one but it has blown my freaking mind. What if Dave was recruited by the commission in the original original timeline where Klaus never went to 1968. So then when Klaus does go back to 1968, that Dave is not recruited and they have an extra Dave copy they need to get rid of! And what if Commission Dave killed Klaus’ Dave!
34. Dave leaves the war to become... a pony farmer??!
35. Combining a few again here but it’s still sort of a new idea. Dave joins Destiny’s Children where he meets the last remaining Swede (sorry I’ve heard their names but have not retained them at all) and that’s how he hears about the Conmission. I’m assuming for the purpose of this that the Swedes do speak English but just choose not to. Or hey maybe Dave inexplicably speaks Swedish?
36. Another non Cody one :(. The Umbrellas go back to 1963 again to undo whatever they did that caused the new timeline, like Marty does in Back To The Future Part II, and we get more of Calem Dave.
37. In before people start talking on here about the Insta post that confirms the pony farm wasn’t TUA - the pony farm is a hallucination! Thank you TwistedIllusions!
I’m not adding another number but I want to go on record to say that I still think the “whatever it is I just filmed” tweet https://twitter.com/codyraythompson/status/1365031006726676481?s=21 was about TUA. I think he has one scene really early on, either a hallucination or a flashback or Klaus conjures Dave as soon as he’s alone only to find out that it’s an alternate timeline Dave who doesn’t know him, before the hargreeves all go back in time and we get a fuller arc in starting from ep 3 or 4...
38. Klaus is not only the bridge between the living and the dead but between universes or timelines or whatever, and he’s able to bring ghost Dave in from his timeline

Counterpoint to idea 11 and in light of the above wig, maybe Dave survived the war but that and his 1963 encounter with Klaus just pushed him further into military culture as a way to continue hiding from himself and telling himself he’s being a brave hero when really he’s just acting out of fear.

Hmm, what can be filmed in 2 days. May would be maybe ep 5 or 6...? They just wrapped ep 3, right? So we potentially have one scene early on in like the first ep or 2 for the “whatever it is I just filmed” tweet, then another scene filmed over 2 days in May for maybe ep 5 or 6... how many days does it usually take to film a scene...? I feel like Calem said it was 3 days for the diner scene, although I could be remembering that wrong...

Ok so I haven’t been able to listen to that Twitter Space thing Calem was on but I have gotten some second hand accounts and apparently Calem said that Young Dave really did want Klaus to rescue him when he went on the bus at the end. And he also said Dave would’ve eventually joined Klaus on his adventures if Uncle Brian hadn’t been there. So now I’m thinking, if grown up AU Dave encountered Klaus again, what if he’s just like ‘omg it’s you, please rescue me from my terrible life and take me with you on all your adventures!’
